The Health Ministry on Monday asked the clinical hospital Dubrava in Zagreb ("KB Dubrava") to submit a report on a power outage that happened in the health institution on Sunday evening and on the conditions of the hospital's electrical substation unit.
The head of the KB Dubrava steering board, doctor Silvio Basic, told reporters on Monday afternoon that five ventilators were left without electricity for a brief moment on Sunday evening, and explained that power was cut off for ventilators briefly while the rest of the hospital was not without electricity.
Dr. Basic underscored that patients were not at risk during the brief outage.
The ministry said that the report was requested so that the deficiencies could be removed.
The ministry recalls that in March, Health Minister Vili Beros undertook the first steps to convert the KB Dubrava into a centre for treatment of COVID-19 patients in a serious condition.
Many measures and actions have been taken to repurpose the institution for a major hospital for COVID-19 patients in a short period, the ministry says.
Basic said today that the hospital would have 800 beds for covid patients.
Currently there are eight ventilators and 12 beds unoccupied, and when they are used up, new patients will be admitted to tents set up outside Dubrava, he said.
