Prime Minister Andrej Plenkovic said on Friday that a proposal of measures for the prevention of radicalisation, based on a report by the Coordinating Committee for Homeland Security, would be sent today to the Office of the President.
The President’s Office will also be presented with several possible dates for a meeting of the National Security Council, as the office which co-signs the invitation to the meeting.
If it is possible, we will try to hold the meeting next week, Plenkovic told a press conference after a meeting of the government’s Science Council on the fight against the coronavirus epidemic.
Earlier today the Office of the President issued a press release saying that the government has no legal basis for giving tasks to the Coordinating Committee for Homeland Security, that the committee is obliged to inform President about its conclusions, which it has not done, and that President’s Defence and National Security Advisor, who attended the meeting, was not allowed to comment on the minutes.
PM Plenkovic said that the government had the authority, under the Act on the Government of the Republic of Croatia, to ask the Coordinating Committee to suggest measures.
The government yesterday received a report by the said committee on proposed measures for a comprehensive, systematic and effective approach to preventing radicalisation in the Croatian society.
Plenkovic today said that the proposal of measures followed the government’s decision from last week and that it could serve as a basis for discussion to the National Security Council.
