Prime Minister Andrej Plenkovic visited the Borovo footwear factory in Vukovar on Tuesday, pledging further support to this state-owned company.

“Borovo employs 600 workers and tries to make high-quality products. Next year, Borovo is celebrating its 90th anniversary, and we congratulate the management and workers on that anniversary,” Plenkovic said after touring the production halls accompanied by the company’s CEO Gordana Odor.

He recalled that the government had provided assistance to the company on several occasions and said he was glad to see that Borovo had also used the grants under this year’s job-retention scheme in a timely and successful manner.

Plenkovic arrived in the eastern town on Tuesday afternoon to attend two-day events commemorating Vukovar’s fall into the hands of local Serb rebels and the Yugoslav People’s Army (JNA) on 18 November 1991. In the evening, the PM is going to light a candle outside the town’s hospital.
