Croatia records EU's lowest consumper prices decrease in Oct

In October 2020, prices increased mildly again in the European Union and Croatia recorded the lowest decrease among the member states, close to the euro area average, Eurostat said on Thursday.

EU annual inflation was 0.3% in October 2020, stable compared to September. A year earlier, the rate was 1.1%.

The euro area annual inflation rate was -0.3% in October 2020, stable compared to September. A year earlier, the rate was 0.7%. The largest decrease was recorded in energy prices (-8.2%), while fresh food prices recorded the highest increase (+4.3%).

In October 2020, 12 EU member states recorded price decreases year on year, as in September.

The lowest annual inflation rates were registered in Greece (-2%), Estonia (-1.7%) and Ireland (-1.5%).

Croatia recorded the lowest annual rate at 0.2%. In September, prices dropped 0.3% year on year.

Prices dropping by less than 1% also occurred in Germany, Italy, Spain, Slovenia, Portugal, Latvia and Luxembourg.

The highest annual inflation rates were recorded in Poland (3.8%), Hungary (3.0%) and Czechia (2.9%).
