Croatia will step up some Covid-19 restrictions in its five coastal counties starting on Monday, the national coronavirus task force announced in a news conference on Friday.

"Any gathering of more than 50 people without a Covid vaccination certificate will be banned, and the maximum size of gathering of people with Covid certificates will be set at 1,000... Croatia's entire Adriatic coast is currently 'dancing' between orange and red (designations) on the ECDC (coronavirus risk) map (of Europe). These measures are mainly intended to prevent other countries from rolling out new restrictions for visitors returning from Croatia," said Interior Minister, Davor Bozinovic.

He added that the new restrictions would be in place until at least August 15.

Some restrictions have also been introduced for wedding parties - for gatherings with up to 15 people, attendees do not need certificates, but events with more than 15 people all participants will be required to have them.

Fairs and "other outdoor business events" can now be held only with the approval of local and regional authorities. Organisers are required to seek permission for such events no later than seven days before the event takes place.

The validity of Covid vaccination or Covid recovery certificates required to enter to Croatia has also been extended, from 210 to 270 days.
