The state statistics bureau DZS formally lodged a proposal to amend the law on census, which would move this year's once-in-a-decade population census from April to September.
The census was originally scheduled to take place from 1 April to 7 May, but was then postponed to June because of the coronavirus pandemic and last year’s Zagreb earthquake. The bureau now wants to postpone it again until September.
This time, the census is planned to take place in two stages In the first stage, on 13-26 September, Croatians would fill in census forms online, while the second stage, from 27 September to 17 October, would involve traditional in-person interviews by census-takers.
The previous census was taken in 2011.
