In response to recent surge in fuel prices, Croatian government decreed on Thursday to limit the retail price of petrol sold at Croatian stations to 11.10 kuna (€1.48) per liter, and the price of diesel fuel to 11.00 kuna (€1.46) per liter. The decision will be in force for at least the next 30 days, state agency Hina said.
As in many other countries, fuel prices had increased considerably in Croatia, especially after the last price hike on Tuesday. The ceiling now set by the government will largely move retail prices back to last week's levels.
In a cabinet meeting, Prime Minister Andrej Plenkovic said that limiting the price of fuel was a move to "protect consumers."
He added that the government would be "closely monitoring the situation and trends on global markets" and "take further steps, as necessary."
