It is unlikely that there was any link between AstraZeneca's Covid-19 vaccine and death of a 91-year-old patient who suffered from pulmonary embolism, experts with Croatia's drug regulator Halmed and the country's public health institute HZJZ said on Tuesday.
“Based on the documentation supplied, the patient had several risk factors that were the probable cause of pulmonary embolism with a fatal outcome,” experts said in a press release on Tuesday.
“The conclusion is based on a detailed examination of all the available data of the patient’s medical status, other medication, therapy, letter of release, confirmation of death, which noted that the cause of death was pulmonary embolism and a comparison of available epidemiological details,” they added.
The European Medicines Agency (EMA) is continuing to assess whether there is any link between AstraZeneca’s vaccine and blood clotting observed in some people vaccinated against the coronavirus, the release said.
