Croatia's Parliament passed on Friday a decision declaring the nation's Exclusive Economic Zone (EEZ) in the Adriatic. The vote was unanimous, with all 141 lawmakers present during the vote in the 151-seat parliament voting in favor of establishing the EEZ.
The new designation upgrades some rights that Croatia already had in the Adriatic via the 2003 Ecological and Fisheries Protection Zone (EFPZ), adding the ability to construct artificial islands and the right to produce energy harnessing the power of the sea, the winds and the water currents.
Croatia’s both Adriatic Sea neighbours – Italy and Slovenia – also announced plans for their own EEZ legislation.
