The leadership of the centre-left Social Democratic Party (SDP) has adopted a draft programme for cooperation with the green-left platform Mozemo! and their partners in Zagreb, which will ensure a majority in the new City Assembly following the recent local elections, the party announced on Monday evening.
The party leadership accepted the agreement unanimously, said SDP presidency member Sabina Glasovac after a party leadership meeting late on Monday.
“Now what is left is to iron out the details,” she added.
The Green-Left Mozemo! platform, led by environmental activist and new Zagreb Mayor Tomislav Tomasevic, has won 23 seats in the 47-seat Assembly in the May 16 local election, falling one seat short of a majority. The SDP party has won five seats.
The 28-point cooperation programme between the two parties includes topics on a transparent budget, civic education in schools, care for pre-school children, and infrastructure projects, said Glasovac.
She declined to say whether Josko Klisovic, the SDP mayoral candidate who finished a distant fifth in the local election, would serve as deputy chairman of the Assembly, but did confirm that the draft dealt with the division of roles in the body.
Mozemo! platform will discuss the draft later on Tuesday, and it is expected to be signed on Wednesday, a day before the new Assembly’s inaugural session.
