The state-owned HZ Putnicki Prijevoz (HZPP) railway passenger transport company signed a cooperation agreement with the Czech rail operator RegioJet to operate a summer train service on the Prague-Zagreb-Rijeka route, state agency Hina reported on Thursday, citing a HZ press release.
A similar deal was first launched in 2020.
“We are happy that we are continuing last year’s successful cooperation, which resulted in an attractive and safe option for tourists travelling between Croatia, the Czech Republic and Slovakia. We are pleased to say that the average train occupancy last year was more than 90 percent and that the project made a profit. We are also exceptionally pleased with the cooperation with HZPP,” RegioJet director Radim Jancura, said.
He added that about 25,000 tickets have already been sold to Czech holidaymakers, and that the first train will leave Prague on May 28. Last year more than 60,000 passengers travelled on this route.
“I hope that we can expand this attractive offer to an even greater number of tourists to come and enjoy Croatia as one of the most attractive European destinations and that Croatians will be able to travel at affordable prices to Budapest, Bratislava, and Prague,” said Zeljko Ukic, president of the management board at HZPP.
The cooperation between the two railways will last until September 30. Trains will run three times a week in both directions in May and June, and in July and August the service will operate daily.
