Unicef donated three ventilators and rapid antigen and PCR test kits to the Croatian Health Ministry on Monday to help the country's healthcare system in combating the coronavirus outbreak. The donation is valued at 1.2 million kuna (€160,000).
“The coronavirus epidemic has presented us with many challenges, but also with an opportunity to show our humanity and solidarity with one another, and especially with those in need. Unicef is synonymous for that kind of work,” Health Minister, Vili Beros, said.
Unicef’s representative in Croatia, Regina M. Castillo, said that from the very beginning of the pandemic UNICEF had been assisting the Croatian healthcare system by providing protective medical equipment, organizing online workshops and preparing educational materials, guidelines, and recommendations.
Unicef has already donated 3.7 million kuna (€490,000) worth of medical and protective gear and hygiene supplies to Croatia. In addition, it donated a long-term data storage system, worth 480,000 (€63,000), which enables online teaching. It has also donated 100 tablet computers worth 120,000 kuna (€16,000) for impoverished children, as well as 500 SIM cards for 52 schools that do not have access to the internet, allowing them to use the mobile phone network to deliver online teaching.
Unicef has also provided 450 packages containing hygiene products, toys, picture books, coloring books, and crayons for pre-school children from socially vulnerable families.
