Croatian Parliament okayed the opening of a regional office of the World Meteorological Organization (WMO) in Zagreb, which will be funded by the government and which will work on implementing regional projects.
The future WMO office for projects will be opened at Croatia's meteorological service DHMZ headquarters in Zagreb, and the Croatian government will fund the opening with 340,000 kuna (€45,000).
The office of this specialized United Nations agency for weather and climate will help promote Croatia as a center of excellence in this sector, the government said, and the office is expected to help implement and coordinate its projects across southeast Europe.
The WMO is an intergovernmental organization with 193 countries and territories in its membership.
