Pejcinovic-Buric at G7 mtg: A great recognition for Croatia

Croatian Minister of Foreign and European Affairs Marija Pejcinovic-Buric is attending a G7 summit in Toronto this weekend, which she assessed as a “great recognition” for Croatia, the minister's office said on Saturday.

As a member state of the NATO and the European Union, Croatia shares common values on foreign policy issues, said the minister, assessing as “very important” Croatia’s stance within the UN Security Council towards the issues of today.

“At this moment, Croatia sided with the western democracies when it comes to the issue of chemical weapon (in Syria),” she added.

The G7 informal meeting will discuss the security situation in Syria, relations with Russia and Iran, situation in Venezuela and the Korean peninsula, while the formal part of the meeting will discuss equality of women as the key factor in establishing of peace, economic growth and reducing the poverty.

Pejcinovic-Buric is also scheduled to meet with her Canadian counterpart Chrystia Freeland on Saturday to discuss strengthening of economic cooperation. She recalled that Croatia was one of the first countries within the EU to confirm the EU-Canada Comprehensive Economic and Trade Agreement (CETA).

The minister, who met representatives of Croatian community in Canada, said that “a strong Canada’s Croatian community provides a strong bridge and a good opportunity” for continuation of already developed investments in Canada.
