Croatia has been marking the Europe Day for 18 years and this year the country is also marking five years of its EU membership, said Foreign Affairs Minister of Croatia Marija Pejcinovic-Buric, at an event marking the Europe Day in Zagreb on Saturday.

“Two years from now we will mark this day under the Croatia’s presidency (of the EU) for the first time, and we believe that in these two years we will respond to some important issues concerning the European project…,” Pejcinovic said.

She recalled that in several days Croatia would assume the chairmanship of the Council of Europe and in two years it would take over the rotating EU presidency.

The event was also addressed by Bulgarian Ambassador Tanya Dimitrova, whose country currently holds the six-month rotating EU Presidency, Croatian presidential envoy Mate Granic, representatives of the European Commission and the European Parliament in Croatia, and Deputy Mayor of Zagreb Jelena Pavicic Vukicevic.
