US Attorney General Jeff Sessions visited on Thursday the Interior Ministry’s Police Academy in Zagreb, where he met with the Croatian Interior Minister, Davor Bozinovic, said the US Embassy to Zagreb in a press release.
Sessions attended the Transnational Organised Crime Regional Workshop along with chiefs of police, and chief state prosecutors from six regional countries – Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Kosovo, Montenegro, Macedonia, and Serbia.
“When he was in the United States, Minister Bozinovic said he wanted the relationship between law enforcement agencies in Croatia and the United States to be as strong as our excellent defence relationship. That is an excellent goal, and one that moved closer to reality during my visit here,” Sessions said during the visit to the Academy.
The workshop, organised by the US Department of Justice, was designed to develop the skills and tools required to conduct effective transnational crime investigations, while simultaneously building relationships and networks between training participants to increase cooperation and collaboration across borders in future investigations, said the press release.
The US Department of Justice has been developing law enforcement capacity to combat corruption and organised crime in Croatia and the region since 2001. The US supports the development of regional law enforcement partnerships by bringing together law enforcement officials from the six countries in the region to engage in workshops, seminars, and conferences, said the press release.
Subject matter experts from Croatia and the US provide leadership in the development and implementation of these training courses that further the host government’s knowledge, while strengthening the relationship between the governments of Croatia and the United States.
