Leader of the European People’s Party (EPP) Manfred Weber said on Wednesday he supported Croatia’s joining the Schengen Area and euro zone.
“Croatia wishes to join the Schengen Area, Croatia wishes to become member of the euro zone. I want, in the name of my party club, the largest in the European Parliament, to clearly say that we want to support and encourage this initiative,” Weber said at the beginning of the EPP’s three-day closed session in Munich.
Croatian Prime Minister Andrej Plenkovic, who was a guest at this session, said Croatia’s goal was to become a full member of the Schengen Area by 2019.
In the meeting, the EPP club will discuss the topics of European Union’s external borders, joint European military and creating conditions to open 3 million jobs.
