The Romanian police that control the external borders of the European Union are interested in purchasing Croatian-made special purpose arms and equipment, Interior Minister Davor Bozinovic said after meeting with his Romanian counterpart, Carmen Dan, in Bucharest on Thursday.

During their talks, the two ministers confirmed that Romania and Croatia had no outstanding issues and that their countries would support each other in their bids to enter the EU’s Schengen Area. Although Romania and Croatia had become members of the EU in 2007 and 2013 respectively, neither have yet joined the bloc’s passport-free travel area.

Specifically, Romania’s Dan expressed interest in the purchase of handguns and helmets manufactured by the Karlovac-based HS Produkt company, which successfully exports most of its products to the US market.

The meeting of the two ministers took place in Romania’s capital ahead of a conference of the Salzburg Forum, an informal group of Central and East European countries which formed a security partnership based on an initiative launched by Austria’s Interior Ministry.

Countries which are members of the Salzburg Forum are Austria, Bulgaria, Croatia, the Czech Republic, Hungary, Poland, Romania, Slovakia and Slovenia.
