Regulations for the arrival of migrants were not defined in the right way, said Croatian member of the European Parliament Ivan Jakovcic, adding that he was not supportive of the idea of building the walls or chasing away the ships carrying migrants as some countries did.
Speaking for N1, MEP Jakovcic said Croatia was unable to accept irregular migrants but that it could accept those fleeing from wars and destructions. He criticized the inhumane treatment of migrants.
“I don’t support closing the doors, but I also don’t support rampage or irregularities, Croatia has enough strength, we need police, judiciary, there are many NGOs who help, especially the Jesuit Refugee Service. Those are the people of clean conscience, I wish we were the country of clean conscience because Hungary certainly has no clean conscience,” said Jakovcic.
In his opinion, Europe will not easily find a solution to the situation with migrants, and the only “permanent solution” would be solving the problem where it emerged.
“We need to tell the leadership that we need permanent solutions to the problems where they emerged, and take care of those in trouble in the best possible way,” he added.
