The northern city of Varazdin is ready for its street festival Spancirfest which will be held on August 17-26, featuring musicians and bands, theatre companies, street performers, and visual artists from many countries.
Spancirfest, established in 1999, turns Varazdin’s historic inner ring into a large entertainment area every year in late August, with concert stages, shopping kiosks, and eateries, while musicians, street performers, jugglers and acrobats perform for tens of thousands of visitors.
During the festival, famous bands from all over the world will play on a number of stages around the city. Some 60 concerts are planned, along with 150 street performances and entertainment programmes, as well as workshops for kids.
On Wednesday, August 22, the legendary British soul, R&B, funk and acid jazz performers Soul II Soul and The Brand New Heavies will play.
On August 26, the cult reggae-pop phenomenon from England, UB40, will take the audience on a musical journey through time by performing hits from their three-decades-long career, such as “Red Red Wine”, “Kingston Town”, and “Can’t Help Falling in Love”.
Other performers include big names of the regional and local music scenes, such as Bajaga i Instruktori, SARS, Cold Snap, Dubioza Kolektiv, Zabranjeno Pusenje, and others.
LaLuz Visuals, a Hungarian group specialised in light painting, will project light paintings in town squares.
