Parliament Speaker Gordan Jandrokovic has condemned Friday's attack on MPs Milorad Pupovac and Boris Milosevic of the Independent Democratic Serb Party (SDSS), saying he expected the perpetrators, circumstances and motives of the attack to be identified.

“Any form of physical violence is unacceptable and, of course, needs to be condemned. I expect the perpetrators to be identified,” Jandrokovic told the press on Saturday ahead of a meeting of the association of war veterans from the ruling Croatian Democratic Union (HDZ) party.

Asked whether the radicalisation of the atmosphere in society had led to the attack, he said he did not know the details of the incident.

“I repeat, any form of violence against any participant in political and public life is unacceptable. I see that everyone condemns it, there is a consensus on this matter. Law enforcement authorities must find those responsible and I expect them to establish the circumstances and motives,” Jandrokovic said.

The Serb minority MPs were attacked in Zagreb’s Dolac open-air fruit and vegetable market on Friday afternoon when they had food leftovers thrown at them by as yet unidentified assailants.
