The opposition Social Democratic Party (SDP) has strongly condemned Friday's attack on MPs Milorad Pupovac and Boris Milosevic of the Independent Democratic Serb Party (SDSS), urging the authorities to take action and calling on all political actors to condemn such incidents.
The SDP called on all political actors “to stop tolerating the evident rise of intolerance towards everyone and everything that does not fit into the nationalist and ultraconservative frames of certain societal groups.”
The Serb MPs were attacked in Zagreb’s Dolac open-air fruit and vegetable market on Friday afternoon when they had food leftovers thrown at them by as yet unidentified assailants.
The incident was also condemned by the parliamentary group of ethnic minorities, who appealed to the authorities to identify the perpetrators as soon as possible and punish them appropriately.
Showing “absolute solidarity” with Pupovac and Milosevic, they expressed their deep concern about a growing number of “such violent incidents that dramatically threaten the basic civilisational and ethic norms on which our shared social life rests.”
