Protesters walked down the street of Split on Sunday morning, carrying banners that called for Croatia to reject an international plan that is to be discussed in Marrakesh on how countries should deal with migrations.

The two-day conference called Global Compact for Safe, Orderly and Regular Migration will start on Monday and Croatia will be represented by its Interior Minister.

The demonstrators carried a Croatian flag and banners with messages such as “Let Us Discard Marrakesh Agreement and Be Against Ideologies of Globalism”, “Marrakesh is Equal to Legalisation of Invasion”, “Stop the Forceful Islamisation of Croatia” and similar.

One of the banners criticised Croatia’s Prime Minister Andrej Plenkovic, calling him “a Slave of Globalism,” and urging him to resign.

The protest was organised by a group that introduced itself as “the Group of Citizens in Split.”

The demonstrators chanted Catholic prayers and sang Croatian patriotic songs.

The initiator of the rally, Lovre Mestrovic, described the U.N. compact on migrations as “malign” document during his speech.

The crowd also held a grudge against the current government over the ratification of the Council of Europe Convention on preventing and combating violence against women and domestic violence known as the Istanbul Convention.
