At the end of 2018, there were 2.19 million registered road vehicles in Croatia, an increase of 4.5% compared to 2017, and the figure includes 1.66 million passenger cars, an increase of 4.4%, show data provided by the national statistical office.
The data on the number of registered vehicles were obtained from the Ministry of the Interior.
The number of first-time vehicle registrations was 180,454, an increase of 41.4% from 2017.
Statisticians say that the increase is owing to a rise in the number of first-time registrations of used cars (70.5%) and the number of first-time registrations of new vehicles (25%).
In 2018, there were 10,450 road accidents with casualties, a drop of 4.5% from 2017.
A total of 317 people were killed in road accidents last year, a decrease of 4.2% from 2017. A total of 13,989 people were injured in road accidents, a decline of 4.2%.
