During the annual OCED ministerial council meeting in Paris on 22-23 May, the Organisation of Economic Cooperation and Development postponed a decision to accept new members and membership aspirants, including Croatia, which will wait for a new opportunity, according to the AFP news agency.

Commenting on the postponement, Angel Gurria, OECD secretary-general said that the process of expansion was not blocked.

Gurria explained that all 36 member-states of the organised are expected to okay the admission of a new member.

Last year, Latvia and Colombia entered the Paris-headquartered association.

In early March, Croatia’s Foreign Minister Marija Pejcinovic Buric explained that her country’s OECD membership bid was halted by lack of consensus among member-states.

Apart from Croatia, Bulgaria, Romania, Peru, Argentina and Brazil too are in the waiting line for the green-light to join the international organisation, set up in 1961.
