A 22-year-old was on Monday issued with a restraining order after he physically attacked seasonal workers in Supetar on the island of Brac on Sunday when a 26-year-old firefighter was injured.

Under the retraining order, the 22-year-old bully is forbidden to have any contact the injured firefighter and or to come closer than 150 metres to him.

Considering that the 22-year-old man did not have a criminal record, he was issued with an injunction rather than being held in investigative custody.

During the incident he was under the influence and had a blood-alcohol count of 1.2% and during questioning he did not deny the act but said that he could not remember anything.

Another 19-year-old was also arrested and taken in for questioning but was released after being issued with a misdemeanour charge for disturbing the peace and for discrimination.

The incident occurred on Sunday afternoon during the Torcida (Split) football tournament held in Supetar when several individuals attacked some seasonal workers – three young men from Slavonia and a girl from Varazdin. The 26-year-old firefighter stepped in to stop the fight, sustained a fractured nose and was hospitalised in Split. The scuffle was incited by national intolerance when someone from the mob yelled “where are the Serbs?”

Brac firefighters, Supetar Mayor Ivana Markovic and the Pametno party condemned the incident. The political party considers that the responsibility for the incident lies with people in political and public life who openly advocate intolerance and non-acceptance of others who are different.
