Industrial output decline milder in EU and euro area; Croatia sees recovery

The decline in industrial production in the EU28 and the euro area was milder in July 2019 while in Croatia industrial production jumped after a major drop in June, shows a report released on Thursday by the EU's statistical office Eurostat.

In July 2019, seasonally adjusted industrial production in the EU28 fell by 0.1% from June, when it went down by 1.4%, according to revised data.

In the euro area, industrial production fell by 0.4% in relation to the previous month, when it dropped by 1.4% according to revised data.

According to available data, the biggest monthly drop in industrial production in the EU28 was reported by Romania, of 3.3%, followed by Estonia and Latvia, with -2.9% and -2.1% respectively.

Croatia recorded the highest monthly increase in industrial production at the EU level, of 4.9%. In June, its industrial output dropped by 2.2%.

Portugal and Denmark were also among the countries with the highest increases in industrial output, recording rates of 3.6% and 3.5% respectively.

Y-o-y decline milder both in EU and euro area

At the annual level, working-day adjusted industrial output in the EU28 dropped by 1.2%, after going down by 1.8% in the previous month.

In the euro area, it declined by 2% after a 2.4% drop in June.

The greatest annual decline in industrial output in the EU28 was recorded by Estonia (-5.4%), followed by Germany (-5.3%) and Romania (-5.2%).

Industrial output grew the most year-on-year in Hungary (+8.7%) and Denmark and Lithuania (each +5.1%).

In Croatia, working day-adjusted industrial production in July grew by 3% compared to July 2018. In June this year it was 5.6% down from June 2018.
