The Croatian Supreme Court said on Wednesday it had rejected the appeal by convicted war criminal Dragan Vailjkovic, also known as Captain Dragan, who will remain in the Lepoglava penitentiary to serve the rest of his sentence.

The Supreme Court reported that on October 22 that it had overruled Vasiljkovic appeal against the Varazding County Court’s decision to reject Vasiljkovic’s request for probationary release.

“The prisoners will continue to serve his sentence,” the Supreme Court said.

Vasiljkovic was given 13.5 years for crimes committed in the Croatian towns of Knin and Glina during the Homeland War.

Given that the 8 years he had spent in the extradition prison in Australia will be credited to his sentence, Vasiljkovic is expected to be released in late March 2020.

Captain Dragan, who has both Serbian and Australian citizenship, was arrested 13 years ago in Australia where he lived under a false name and was a golf instructor. In July 2015 he was extradited to Croatia and from the very beginning he negated the crimes that he was accused of and claimed that witnesses gave false testimonies.
