Gale force south winds that have been blowing along the coast of up to 134 kilometres an hour have led to hundreds of emergency calls in Dalmatia, local firefighting services said on Tuesday.

The Split firefighting unit has been out in the field and intervened with removing felled trees from roads and several homes.

Firefighter commander Ivan Kovacevic informed Hina that two fire trucks have been significantly damaged and that about fifteen cars have incurred minor damage from fallen trees. The gale force winds have blown off the roof on a local school and students were excused from afternoon classes.

Several streets though have been blocked due to fallen trees. All catamaran and ferry services have been suspended.

There have not been any reports of injuries occurring.
