Serbia confirmed on Monday that 424 people tested positive for the novel coronavirus, and reported five more deaths from Covid-19 over the past 24 hours. This brought the country's total death toll to 85, health authorities said at their daily news conference at the Palace of Serbia.

In that period, 2,646 people were tested. The latest fatalities included three men and two women with an average age of 76.

A total of 4,054 people tested positive in Serbia since the first case appeared on March 6 and 2,890 are hospitalised, while 138 are currently on ventilators. Serbia has until now tested a total of 20,958 people for the new coronavirus.

The media conferences in Belgrade are held without journalists who are allowed to send questions via email.

The Government decision, which has been approved by medical experts, “without many thinking,” has been in place since two days ago. It was explained as a preventive measure against the spreading of the infection.
