Slovenia has recorded nine new cases of COVID-19 over the past 24 hours, which brings the total number of people infected to 1,353, Slovenia's government reported on Wednesday adding that the number of people infected is continuing to decrease.
Another two people have died from the virus, bringing the death toll to 79, the government informed on its web site. In the past 24 hours, 1,459 tests have been conducted.
The total number of people being treated in hospitals has decreased to 82, and 24 of them are in intensive care while eight patients were discharged.
The trend of fewer infected people and more patients who have recovered hence is continuing.
Currently, 291 residents in elderly people’s homes who are the most vulnerable group, are infected with this disease. About one-quarter of all those infected were in this most vulnerable category, as were as many as three-quarters of the deaths from the infection.
To date a total of 326 people had been hospitalised with the novel coronavirus while 210 have been cured and discharged.
According to assessments by Slovenian epidemiologists the epidemic which was proclaimed on March 12, is gradually fading and is under control so some consideration is being given to relieving measures and relaunching economic and social activities after the May 1 holiday.
In a video statement to the nation on Tuesday evening Slovenia’s Prime Minister Janez Jansa said that this could occur if the current trend continues and remains stable and if supervision of people in self-isolation is introduced in an effort to prevent a new wave of the epidemic from erupting.
