In the last 24 hours, five people in Serbia died from Covid-19, increasing the total death toll to 173 since the outbreak began in the country on March 6, Serbian crisis management team reported on Wednesday.

So far,1,292 patients have recovered from the virus. 

The team said that 5,559 people were tested in the last 24 hours, and 227 new cases were confirmed. 

A total of confirmed cases of coronavirus now stands at 8,724, out of 78,942 tested. To date, 2,470 Covid-19 patients are being treated in hospitals, including 78 who are on respirators.

The mortality rate in Serbia stands at 1.98 percent.
