Slovenia has not recorded any new coronavirus cases among the 677 samples tested in the past 24 hours and no new deaths due to Covid-19 were reported, the government said on Saturday.

Over the past two weeks, the number of new infections was minimal or none, which leaves space the restrictions the country introduced to fight the virus to be relaxed further.

The total death toll stands at 105.

Currently, 19 patients are hospitalised, including four who are in intensive care, while 18 persons are considered potential carriers.

To date, 74,419 tests have been conducted in the country, which had a total of 1,486 infections and 280 patients have been discharged from the hospital.

Eighth graders will return to school on Monday. The government confirmed that early next week it would decide on the possible return to school of all elementary school pupils.

A ban on movement and public gatherings of over 50 people remains in force.

On Friday evening, up to 5,000 people in Ljubljana protested against the coalition government, accusing it of poorly running the country during the pandemic, clientelism, corruption and autocratic moves. Protests were held in other towns as well, without major incidents.
