The Hungarian police discovered a tunnel used by migrants to cross the border from Serbia, the Serbian state TV (RTS) said on Monday.

The tunnel was discovered during an operation by Hungarian police officers and soldiers to prevent the illegal crossing of more than 300 migrants. The police said that the tunnel was 24 meters long running from the Serbian to the Hungarian side of the border, adding that this is the third tunnel discovered in the border area over the past year.

The Hungarian authorities have reported an increase in the number of illegal crossing since the end of May with almost 900 migrants trying to get into the European Union member state last week alone.
