A working group tasked with drawing up a new anti-corruption strategy will begin work in a fortnight and the strategy is expected to be written by the end of the year, Jutarnji List daily said on Monday, citing the Justice Ministry.
The government is also embarking on the amendment of laws on criminal procedure, the government, the USKOK anti-corruption office, local government, the budget, and whistleblowers.
The basic idea is in line with the existing anti-corruption strategy, but we will markedly step up corruption prevention and raise awareness of corruption as socially unacceptable behaviour, the ministry told the paper.
It said the aim of amending the Criminal Procedure Act was to have the whole procedure end “within a reasonable deadline,” i.e. within three years from the moment an indictment is filed until a final court ruling is delivered.
The Government Act will be amended to strip government members of immunity for corruption crimes which are prosecuted ex officio, Jutarnji List said.
