The 29th Zagreb Marathon, scheduled for October 11, has been cancelled due to the coronavirus pandemic, the organisers announced on Monday.
“Unfortunately, the Zagreb Marathon, like all major marathons in the world, suffered the same fate this year. Due to the large number of participants from Croatia and the world, despite the measures we have prepared, we cannot consciously take the risk of endangering the health of our runners and the potential spreading of the infection to other fellow citizens. The Zagreb Marathon is a big sporting event that primarily aims to promote a healthy life, and we certainly want it to stay that way,” the organisers said in a statement.
They said they were now preparing virtual races to mark October 11 in the spirit of running. More information will be available in the coming days at zagreb-marathon.com.
