In the past 24 hours, Varazdin County has registered 254 new cases of the coronavirus infection, and prefect Radimir Cacic said on Friday that the county was at breaking point with regard to ventilators.
Our numbers have surpassed those of all European countries that are at highest risk, except for Belgium and the Czech Republic, Cacic said.
He said that Varazdin County had paid for five ventilators even though, according to him, that was the state’s obligation.
Two more ventilators will be ordered, and we have received three from the ministry, Cacic said.
According to him, it was quite possible that Varazdin County would be in the same problem in seven or ten days time if the situation continued to develop with this intensity.
Cacic also said that of the 411 beds in Varazdin’s general hospital more than a quarter were already occupied by COVID patients.
Since the number of available beds is decreasing, a parking lot near the hospital is being prepared for the installation of military tents where COVID patients will be accommodated.
On Friday afternoon the army started installing those three tents which will have 60 beds for patients diagnosed with coronavirus.
According to the latest information, the Varazdin hospital is treating 108 COVID patients with serious symptoms, and 13 of them are placed on ventilators.
