In addition, they spent a total of 1.35 billion kuna (€179 million) on one-day trips in 2020, or 60 percent down from 2019. According to the state statistics bureau, two out of every three (62.4 percent) Croatians did not make any private multiple-day trips, and as many as 95.3 percent did not make any business trips in 2020.

This means that overall they spent 6.75 billion kuna (€898 million) on trips of any kind in 2020, or 58 percent down from nearly 16 billion kuna (€2.1 billion) in the pre-pandemic year of 2019.

Last year, 1.3 million Croatians reportedly made some sort of a trip at least once, including a million making trips within Croatia’s borders. The remaining 300,000 (or roughly 13 percent of Croatia’s 4 million population) had traveled abroad at least once. An equal number of trips were made by men and women, state agency Hina reported.

In 2020, Croatians made a total of 3 million private and business multi-day trips, 50 percent down from 2019. Most of these, 2.8 million (or 93 percent), were private trips, 55 percent down from 2019, with Croatians spending 4.6 billion kuna (€612 million) on them, also 50 percent down from 2019.

Multi-day business trips saw an even larger drop due to the pandemic, with only 216,000 business trips made in 2020, or 74 percent down from 2019, and 703 million kuna (€93 million) was spent on them – down by 77 percent. The number of business trips made in Croatia dropped by 62 percent, and the number of those made abroad fell by 85 percent.
