Slovenia has conducted 8,127 coronavirus tests in the past 24 hours, with 39.8% of them (3,232) turning out positive, the country's health authorities said on Saturday.

The new infection numbers were lower than the day before and than the week before, the Slovenian Institute of Public Health reported.

The seven-day incidence rate per 100,000 inhabitants has fallen to 3,234, and all those figures indicate a turnaround in the trend.

However, the situation in hospitals is still difficult, with a rising number of COVID patients who require treatment in intensive care units. The number of COVID patients in ICU increased by 10 to 256 from Friday to Saturday.

As many as 1,106 COVID patients are currently receiving hospital treatment.

The COVID-related death toll has risen by 22 to 5,044.

The vaccination rate in the total population is 54%.
