MP Dario Hrebak, the leader of the Croatian Social Liberal Party (HSLS), a junior partner in the ruling HDZ-led coalition which controls 2 out of 151 seats in the country's Parliament, called on Thursday for the government to consider abolishing mandatory Covid passes, adding that he had already proposed this in a closed meeting of the ruling coalition parties. “I’ve never had any problem saying what I think and now it’s time to start thinking about abolishing Covid certificates. However, I will leave it up to the experts and the Covid task force to decide when exactly that should happen,” state agency Hina cited Hrebak as saying during a debate in Parliament.

“We are thinking with our heads, listening to the experts, watching what scientists have to say,” Hina cited him as saying.

“We liberals have held certain talks on that topic and we consider it to be logical that if we have a drastic increase in numbers on the one hand while the number of hospitalized patients is falling on the other, it might be time to ease restrictions,” Hrebak told fellow MPs.

“There is no reason to continue testing because the number of positive cases among those tested is more than 50 percent, and the number of people self-isolating is enormous,” Hrebak added.

Hrebak was also quick to emphasize that he is “not an anti-vaxxer” and that he believes that “people should get vaccinated.”
