The national tourist board released data on overnight stays and visitor arrivals during the so-called "extended" four-day weekend on June 22-25, when the weekend was bookended by two national holidays on Friday and Monday.

According to data collected by the eVisitor electronic registry, 621,000 tourists visited the country during the period, with 2.9 million overnight stays recorded, or 9 and 7 percent up from last year’s extended weekend in late June respectively.

The figures include 550,000 foreign visitors who made 2.5 million overnight stays – up by 5 and 8 percent respectively. By type of accommodation, private households and bed and breakfasts accounted for 1 million overnight stays, followed by hotels (665,000) and camps (589,000).

In terms of overnight stays, among the top ten destinations were towns in Istria – Rovinj, Poreč, Medulin, Umag, Tar; in the northern Adriatic – Mali Losinj, Crikvenica, Vir, and Novalja; and the southern city of Dubrovnik.

By country of origin, the most overnight stays were recorded by visitors from Germany, followed by domestic tourists, Slovenians, Austrians, and the Czechs. Other significant groups include tourists from Poland, the United Kingdom, Italy, Hungary, and Sweden.
