The Croatian government on Thursday decided to raise the tourist tax in the peak season, paid per person per night, at all accommodation facilities except camping sites, by approximately 25 percent.

“Even with the increase, Croatia will still have the lowest tourist tax compared to all of its peers,” Tourism Minister, Gari Cappelli, said.

Based on the government’s decision, the tourist tax should go up 25 percent at all forms of accommodation, except at camping sites, from 8 kuna to 10 kuna (€1.35), charged per person per night.

Tourist taxes range, for example, between €0.45 and €2.50 per day in Spain, between €0.20 and €7.00 in Italy, between €1.00 and €2.00 in Portugal, between €0.15 and €3.00 in Austria, between €0.50 and €4.00 in Greece, and €2.5 in Slovenia.

Tourist tax collected at at campsites should remain at 8 kuna (€1.08) per person per night.

In 2017 the national tourist board had collected 464 million kuna (€62.8 million) in tourist taxes.
