Croatian police on Tuesday rescued from the Mreznica River two migrants who were given medical assistance and who said that they would seek international protection in Croatia, the Karlovac County Police Department said on Wednesday.
After police were informed by a member of the public that a man was unable to get out of the river at Barilovic, a police patrol was sent to Mreznica, a village in Barilovic municipality, where they found the man, a foreign national, who asked police to help his friend, who could not get out of the river so police had to ask the Mountain Rescue Service (HGSS) for assistance due to demanding terrain.
They rescued the migrant from the river and both migrants were then taken to hospital due to exhaustion and hypothermia.
