The World Jewish Congress (WJC) on Monday voiced its satisfaction with the Austrian Parliament's decision to adopt a resolution to ban an annual gathering at Bleiburg which the WJC describes as the "epicentre of the glorification of fascist pro Nazi movement heroes."

The Parliament in VIenna on Friday adopted a non-binding resolution calling on its Interior Minister to ban the commemoration for soldiers of the Independent State of Croatia (NDH), a Nazi-puppet government, who were killed by the Tito-led Partisans in the wake of the Second World War.

The resolution, proposed by the Greens, was supported by almost all political parties, including Prime Minister Sebastian Kurtz's Conservatives. The far right Freedom Party of Austria voted against, the Austrian news agency APA reported.

The World Jewish Congress is an international organization that represents Jewish communities and organizations in 100 countries around the world.
