A €270,000 CT scanner was unveiled in the newly reconstructed radiology department in Zagreb's Vrapce Psychiatric Hospital on Monday, as the first device of its kind in this hospital.
The Vrapce psychiatric hospital, established in 1879, is the oldest and largest psychiatric institution in Croatia. More than 150,000 patients have been treated in Vrapce since its opening.
Today, the hospital has 881 beds in 11 departments, along with two day hospitals and a clinic.
The CT scanner will improve the diagnostics process and serve as an important step in diagnosing patients, said the hospital’s director, Vlado Jukic.
“According to some research findings, nearly one percent of psychiatric patients actually have some processes on their brains, and now it is routine practice, if psychosis is suspected, to perform CT scanning,” Jukic said.
A total of 2.5 million kuna (€338,000) was invested in reconstructing the Vrapce hospital’s Radiology ward, with 560,000 kuna (€75,500) secured by the City of Zagreb.
