Over the past 24 hours, 88 new Covid-19 infections have been confirmed in Croatia, 12 persons have recovered and one patient has died, the national crisis task force said in their daily briefing on Friday.
The total number of confirmed cases since the outbreak began is now 1,495, including 21 deaths and 231 recoveries.
Over the last seven days Croatia reported 40-60 new cases every day. The uptick on Friday is attributed to 30 new cases found among elderly residents of a nursing home in Croatia’s second city of Split.
The latest reported fatality was one of the home’s residents, a 93-year-old woman who had underlying chronic conditions.
Health Minister, Vili Beros, said that the average age of infected people is 49, and added that for the first time since the outbreak began confirmed cases in women outnumber men, at 50.2 percent.
A total of 14,612 samples have been tested to date, including 932 over the past 24 hours, 34 patients are on ventilators, and a total of 343 have been hospitalised.
Five employees of Zagreb’s psychiatric children’s hospital have also tested positive. However, none of the ten children patients there are infected. The five employees include three cooks, a nurse, and a resident psychiatrist.
In capital Zagreb, 12 new cases have been confirmed, totalling 382 to date. Zagreb accounts for about a fifth of Croatia’s entire 4 million population and a quarter of the country’s confirmed cases to date.
