Even though it has been 14 days since the devastating earthquake, the job of reporting damage caused by the 29 December quake has not yet been completed.

About 6,300 buildings have been reported to have sustained damage and new requests for inspection are still being received, she said.

During a press conference on Monday Ikić Baniček thanked volunteering structural engineers, who, she said, were not engaged by state institutions and who have inspected half of the buildings reported.

She underscored that so far 73 prefab container homes had arrived in Sisak and that 31 have electricity connected so that they are fit to be used during the winter months. There are currently 80 people who have been accommodated in these shelters.

So far about 300 applications have been received in Sisak for prefab container homes for people who do not have any other accommodation and whose houses have been desginated as permanently unusable.

The mayor said that she had received offers from private renters who have made their properties available for people without any accommodation.

The plan is to relocate people currently staying in two schools to the Brezovica sports hall in Brezovica and Caprag. People whose houses have been labelled red will have priority she explained.

She mentioned that 2nd semester of the school year would commence on 18 January for all elementary school pupils in the city. She thanked all city services who will transport pupils from three elementary schools that are out of use to other nearby schools.

Commander of Sisak’s firefighting brigade, Miroslav Golub informed that the brigade and volunteer firefighters from other areas of Croatia had conducted about 4,000 interventions in the past two weeks.
