Slovenia registers 1,642 new coronavirus cases, 39 deaths

Slovenia has registered 1,642 new coronavirus cases after 6,385 PCR tests performed and 39 COVID-19-related deaths in the last 24 hours, the government said on Thursday.

In addition to PCR testing, 7,713 people underwent rapid antigen tests and 4.9% of them were confirmed positive for COVID-19.

The number of currently active cases stands at around 20,000.

The situation in hospitals is gradually stabilising. Currently there are 1,226 patients in COVID wards, of whom 204 are in intesive care.

Since the start of the epidemic in the country in early March, 2,454 people have died from consequences of COVID-19, which puts Slovenia among the countries with the highest mortality rates.
