The Croatian Tourism Association (HUT) has called for adapting the map of Croatia in the Re-open EU system to take account of the COVID situation in individual counties, noting that the current European map does not show the real epidemiological situation for tourists planning to visit Croatia.
The current division of Croatia on the European COVID-19 map was published as part of the Re-open EU system of informing EU citizens of the current epidemiological situation in European regions, and the country is divided into just two regions – continental and coastal.
HUT believes the division is too general and does not portray the actual epidemiological situation in individual destinations that tourists are interested in.
“We propose that data sent to the EU present the situation at the county level as that is the only way to show the real epidemiological situation for each destination and the right way to motivate local residents to adhere to restrictions and maintain the best possible health situation,” HUT director Veljko Ostojic said in the latest newsletter released by the association.
He added that HUT’s initiative has been supported in the European Parliament by Croatian MEP Valter Flego, who has said that despite the fact that the current division of the EU COVID map was decided by the European Commission, he will continue insisting, in the European Parliament and before other institutions, on taking into account Croatia’s specificities and on the EU map showing the epidemiological situation in individual Croatian counties.
