Slovenia's Prime Minister Janez Jansa on Monday condemned Russia's recognition of two breakaway regions in eastern Ukraine and called on the European Union to offer Ukraine the prospect of full membership.
Russia’s recognition of the two separatist territories in Ukraine is blatant violation of international law and the agreements made in Budapest and Minsk, Jansa tweeted.
Slovenia condemns that unlawful act. The EU must offer Ukraine the prospect of full membership, he added.
On Monday, Jansa met with the Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban. During their talks, the two officials called for de-escalation of the crisis and for a political solution in Ukraine.
“We hope that there will be no further escalation of the conflict in Ukraine and on its borders, because in the end, this will not be good for anyone and we will all suffer, but especially, at least in the beginning, the economy will suffer, not only those directly involved in the conflict, but also more broadly, especially in the neighbourhood,” Jansa was quoted as saying on Monday morning.
